History

Ardgour is situated at the Corran Narrows on the eastern side of the Ardnamurchan Penninsula. The Corran Narrows is the part of Loch Linnhe that shrinks to approx 200 yards. Here the ferry has plied to and fro for some hundreds of years, from just a row-boat to todays modern, passenger / vehicle ferry. The ferry was upgraded to transport vehichles in 1935, this meant that the time-consuming but delightful journey round the loch was cut to just a simple crossing. On crossing the water, you enter into the beautiful but sparsley populated districts of Ardgour, Morvern, and Ardnamurchan :- a very remote area which was relatively unknown and inaccessible to the traveller during the 1800's but is now a very popular holiday destination.
